Family can be one of our greatest blessings—and one of our greatest battlegrounds.
The enemy knows how powerful families are, so one of his favorite strategies is to turn us against each other.
He uses words, offenses, old hurts, judgments, opinions, rejection, politics, religion, divorce, and family history to keep us divided.
So what do we do?
First, pray.
You don't have to cram the Gospel down somebody's throat. You don't have to win every argument. And you don't have to fix your relatives.
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is simply live your life for Jesus and be the light.
Love them. Forgive them. Don't take the bait of offense. Don't judge them because they aren't where you think they should be.
There is a time to speak and a time to be quiet. Ask the Holy Spirit what love looks like in that situation.
And when you go back into a difficult family environment, remember who you are. You are first a son or daughter of God. You don't have to go back into the old guilt, fear, shame, people-pleasing, or responsibility to fix everybody.
Joseph was betrayed by his own brothers, but he eventually saw that God was able to take what was meant for evil and turn it for good.
So forgive before they ask.
Pray for the prodigals.
Believe God for your family.
And above all, be the light without becoming the judge.

One of the biggest problems we have is that we don't know who we are.
The enemy loves identity theft. If he can convince you that you are your failures, your fears, your sins, your past, or what somebody said about you, he can keep you confused about your purpose and your destiny.
But your identity does not begin with what happened to you.
It begins with God.
God deliberately made you in His image and likeness. You were not an accident. You were not a mistake. You have an origin, an identity, an assignment, and a purpose.
We have to stop saying, “I am depressed. I am afraid. I am a failure. I am an addict. I am no good.”
Those things may describe something you are struggling with, but they do not define who you are.
Go back to the Word of God.
You are chosen. You are redeemed. You are loved. You are God's workmanship. And through faith in Jesus Christ, you are a son or daughter of the living God.
So whose report are you going to believe?
God has a plan for your life. Satan has a plan to destroy it.
Know who you are. Know who God is. Forgive. Repent. And walk in the truth.

Throughout the Bible, trumpets sounded an alarm, gathered God's people, announced a king, warned of approaching danger, and called people to repentance.
The Feast of Trumpets points us to something we cannot afford to ignore: Jesus is coming back.
We don't have to be frightened or spend our time trying to calculate the exact day. Jesus told us to watch and be ready.
The question is not, Can I figure out the date?
The question is, Am I ready if He comes?
This is a time to wake up, repent, surrender your life to Jesus, and stop putting off what God has already told you to do.
And while we're waiting, we have work to do. We are to preach the Gospel, make disciples, heal the sick, cast out demons, and be about our Father's business.
Listen for the trumpet. Watch. Pray. And be ready.

Have you ever looked around and wondered, “God, why are they getting by with this?”
Jeremiah asked it. David asked it. The writer of Psalm 73 asked it. So this isn't a new question.
The problem is that when we keep looking at the wicked, the injustice, and everything that seems wrong, we can get angry, distracted, discouraged, and pulled into a fight God never asked us to fight.
Psalm 37 tells us: Don't fret because of evildoers. Trust in the Lord. Do good. Rest in Him.
Nobody is getting by with anything. There is a day of reckoning, and every one of us will give an account to God.
But there is also mercy.
If you are still breathing, you can repent. You can forsake the lies, the habits, the opinions, and the ways that have been leading you in the wrong direction. God can change your mind, change your direction, and give you a new way to live.
We need to wake up. Stop letting the world tell us what is true. Stop building our lives around our own opinions. Go back to the Word of God.
It isn't our opinion that matters. It's God's truth that matters.

We are living in a day when the fear of the Lord has nearly disappeared. People want God on their terms, but God is still God. His Word is still true, and every one of us is accountable to Him.
The fear of the Lord is not about running away from God because we are scared of Him. It is knowing who He is, reverencing Him, loving what He loves, hating what He hates, and wanting to please Him.
The Bible says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Without it, we are left with foolishness, deception, and our own ideas about what is right and wrong.
In this program, Jarry and I talk about why the fear of the Lord matters, how it protects us from foolish decisions and sin, and why we need to stop letting the world tell us who God is.
God is not calling us to religious perfectionism. He is calling us to follow Jesus, repent, surrender our lives to Him, and walk in the truth.
The fear of the Lord is not death. It is a fountain of life. It brings wisdom, confidence, refuge, direction, and the courage to make the right decision when everything around us is telling us to do otherwise.
It is time to take God seriously, take His Word seriously, and remember that there really is a war for your soul.

Jesus talked a lot about what we can look forward to. Paul and Isaiah gave us a glimpse of the future for those who love and look for the Lord's return. "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him." 
"For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former thing shall not be remembered or come to mind, but be glad and rejoice forever in what I create;" (Is 65:17) 
Jesus teaches us that those who mourn, are hungry, and suffer persecution will be comforted, filled, and rewarded for the suffering they endured. 
 
Look at what you are looking at. Are you getting bogged down by the disappointments and struggles in your life? Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but the desire accomplished is sweet to the soul. Rejoice; we have so many promises to look forward to.

The people of Jeremiah's day considered the word of the Lord to be a reproach. They were given to greed, and everyone dealt falsely with their neighbor. No one was radical for the truth, or, as we would say in our time, no one was radical for Jesus, who is the truth. 
 
We contrast that with the conversion of the Apostle Paul, who was not lukewarm, but already radical for the religious self-righteous version of God's law. He had everything going for him in his religious zeal but was not passionate for the Christ he found himself resisting, until the day he was struck down. He realized he was not following the revelation of God's new commandment as given by Jesus Christ. 
 
Paul let go of the things he assumed were of heavenly value and now counted them as refuse. He traded those achievements for the excellence of the knowledge of Jesus. This radical encounter with the risen Christ turned him in the opposite direction. It will do the same for you!

They'd never lie to me. Or would they? How gullible to think people would never lie to me.
We grant blanket immunity and undeserved credibility to trust certain people because of their position. We must look at character, integrity, and the fruit of the Spirit in discerning the safety of the people we are trusting. But telling lies is not as dangerous as believing those lies.
We are to be His witnesses. We have been trained to have to go to some intermediary to figure out what is going on with our lives, our body, our churches, and our government.
What is the solution to this fearful position where we just accept the lies as the truth, content to be cooked alive in the kettle of deception?
Jesus said, repent for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand. He is drawing near. Humble ourselves and ask God to forgive us for believing the lies and allowing them to rule in our lives.

Jabez was named Pain Maker by his mother! Some of us have had similar words spoken over us: trouble maker, you are never going to amount to anything, you are worthless, and 
I'm so ashamed of you! How did Jabez handle the curse attached to his name? He cried out to God and said he did not want to be under the curse of those words anymore. He wanted to be blessed and not be shaped by the negative words that hid his identity and blocked his destiny.
 
So many of us try to change and cannot sustain the desired changes ourselves. We lose our resolve. Jabaz did not give up; he surrendered his future and situation to God, and God heard him and blessed him.
 
We can take hold of our destiny and secure our true identity in Christ, through Christ. He knows who we are and how to deliver us from evil. Let God make us complete and satisfied and blessed in His love.

How many times do we panic or worry, forgetting about the faithfulness of God, who is committed to keeping us in every situation? He said, "I will never leave you or forsake you. He is faithful to complete the work He has begun in us." The problem is not in God's faithfulness; the problem is in us. 
We judge God by the things He must permit. Because He honors us in the use of our free will, even though we have chosen to take the bait Satan has set before us and use our free will to bite the hook to our own detriment. God is faithful, even when we deny Him.
